Erickson Motorsports will
open the 2005 season with the US Touring Car Series at California
Speedway March 12-13. This extremely popular touring car format is back
for its fifth straight year. Created in 2000, the Hankook United States
Touring Car Championship (USTCC) features door-to-door racing action
between some of the most popular sport compact sedans.
“I am really looking forward to this event,” said Brett Erickson team
owner and driver for the #12 Volkswagen Golf IV touring car. ”I would
expect it to be a strong field for this event, and I am very much
looking forward to representing Volkswagen once again. This will be a
new track and a new series for us so we will need to get up to speed
very quickly. We made some suspension changes to the car during testing
that improved drivability and significantly increased our speed. It has
been a long winter and we are certainly ready to give it our best shot.”
The USTCC races on some of America's greatest racing circuits and also
provides thrilling action as the support race for several high profile
motorsport events, including the inaugural San Jose Grand Prix with the
Champ Car Series in July. In addition to Honda and Acura, many other
prominent manufactures make up the field such as BMW, Audi, Subaru,
Mazda, Dodge, and Saturn. The Volkswagen Bay Area Dealer Ad Association
sponsored #12 Volkswagen Golf VR6 will compete in the series for the
first time.
Erickson Motorsports is still in search of a title sponsor that would
compliment the team and help advance racing development. This would
enable the Volkswagen racing program to continue to compete at the
highest level of racing.
