Brett Erickson, of Sunnyvale, CA announced today new sponsorship from Volkswagen of America in association with the Northern California Dealer Ad Association (NCDAA). Volkswagen of America and the NCDAA have signed on to sponsor Erickson and his newly formed race team, Erickson Motorsports. Erickson Motorsports will be campaigning the (Reflex Silver) #12 Northern California Dealer Ad Association 2001 Volkswagen GLX GTI in the 2002 Speedvision World Challenge Touring Car Championship Series. The sponsorship is a multiyear marketing campaign centering on the launch of Volkswagen's new 2002 GTI, VW's new high performance touring class entry.

Michael Griffin of Volkswagen of America had this to say about the 2002 GTI, "The GTI is returning to its roots in model year 2002 by eliminating comfort oriented equipment as standard in order to focus on performance. The GTI 1.8 Turbo will have a horsepower increase to 180, and soon the VR6 engine will change to 201 horsepower with a redesigned head. The new VR6 will also be mated to a race inspired 6 speed manual transmission".

Brett Erickson had this to say of this major sponsorship announcement, "Wow, I can't be more excited! Michael Griffin adds, "This sponsorship is right in line with where the new GTI is headed, and Brett is just the driver to make this endeavor successful both on and off the track."

The Speedvision World Challenge Championship Series provides teams,manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers a competitive arena for production-based racecars. There are two classes of competition-Grand Touring (GT) and Touring Car. The nine (9) race series travels to some of the premiere racetracks in North America, such as Sebring (FLA.), Mosport (Canada), Laguna Seca (CA) among others and have fields of 40 cars or more.

The Speedvision World Challenge races are televised (tape delayed) on the Speedvision Network. The races are run as support events in conjunction with the American LeMans Series.
